Things to Remember while Designing Mails for Mobiles

As communication has become absolutely essential these days, staying in touch has become a necessity. Before the advent of the mobile phone, people used to communicate through the traditional postal service, telegrams and phone calls. After the cellular system came into being, even till the late 90s owning a mobile phone was considered a luxury. However, over the years, the cell phone has evolved in various ways and now with smartphones, access to the internet and emails has become extremely easy.

In the world of business and commerce, the Blackberry was the first business phone and helped the corporate world stay in touch. After that, other smartphones also started accommodating many business phone facilities giving the people some variety. Therefore, not only did the internet become important but it also grew in popularity because it became ‘mobile’. People in the corporate world these days stay in touch through emails but not just using computers and laptops but also by using the mail facility on their phones.

This aspect is to be kept in mind by email marketers because usually most people these days access their email on their phones. Now if a product or service is being promoted through emails, one has to make sure that the emails can be read on every single hand held device or smartphone. There are many problems that may arise while structuring or designing such an email.

Therefore, email marketers should keep a few points in mind.

They should emphasize on the subject line

As businesspeople hardly have time to go through the entire mail, the subject line is where the entire emphasis should lie. It should be crisp, short and precise. The number of words should not be more than five or seven. The best subject lines are the ones that are not complete sentences but something like a teaser.

They should place the call for action button properly

While designing emails for cell phones make sure you place the ‘call for action’ button on top of the mailer as people hate scrolling down. If you want any forms or surveys to be filled, make sure they are appropriately placed.

They should keep it as simple as possible

Keep the information in the mail as simple as possible. The message should be clear and in short sentences. The idea is not to confuse the recipients.

If you keep these points in mind while you design an email for mobile phones, email marketing campaigns will be more effective.
