Naysay Spamming to Keep the Campaign’s Flag Flying High!


A challenge for most of the e-mail campaigners is to tackle the spamming. Most of the e-mailers go through it at one or other point of their e-mail campaign. Spamming brings a nightmare for marketers, who rely upon e-mails to communicate with their clients; often times it makes the newsletters go unnoticed. It might cause plunge into the promotion metrics thus bringing your business venture at risks.

Though there is no hard and fast rule to avoid the spamming but keeping a few tips into your mind leads the messages directly into the recipient’s inbox.
  • Comply with CAN-SPAM Act: If you follow the set guidelines while creating an electronic message, not only you can avoid spamming but also the harsh penalty of up to $16,000.
Dos and don’ts:
  1. Categorize the messages meant for advertisement
  2. Locate yourself to the recipients
  3. Give recipients an option to opt out from the future e-mails by you
  4. Follow the opt-out request without delay
  5. Observe the activities being carried out on your behalf
  6. Never put misleading information through header and subject lines
  • Curtail yourself from the usages of words that trigger spamming: Although it’s not a hard and fast rule but avoidance of such promotional words and phrases ensure appropriate delivery into the recipients’ inbox. Also, avoid phishing messages to steal own identity, that’s a fraudulent and leads your e-mails to the spam folder.

  • Use texts for sending HTML e-mails: By practicing common text version in your e-mails, not only you avoid delivery of messages into spam folder but also cover you when the receiver is unable to read HTML e-mails.

  • Abide by the “Permission Marketing” guidelines: Ask for the permission from clients or potential clients to send them e-mails for marketing purpose. Get yourself into the white list of theirs through asking them for subscription.

  • Check e-mails for spam before hitting the send option: Before you click the send option make sure of spam-free content through the usages of spam checkers services. You could find several applications on the internet, download it from there.

  • Check if your e-mail server is on blacklist and subsequently get rid of it: As e-mails servers play a key role in avoiding spamming of messages, so identify through some applications about its authenticity and get rid of it if it is on blacklist by using tactics to improve the reputation of your IP address.

  • Manage a desirable text to image ratio: However it is best when you do not send any image at all in the e-mails but by maintaining a healthy ration between texts and images, you can avoid the spam delivery of your e-mails.

  2. Put minimum two lines of texts for every images
  3. Use uniformed HTML services while sending e-mails
  • Do not use large attachments: Attachments such as .jpg, .gif, .pdf and .png have no trouble in sending but when you send .zip, .swf, .exe, etc. types of attachments, you are at the risk of spamming. If through attachments you are sending sensitive data, weigh up the usages of FTP server.

  • Implement DKIM, SPF, Sender-ID and Domain keys’ set-ups correctly: Use the e-mail server that supports such protocols and implement these in the right way.
